Enteric Disease Outbreak Data Analysis Training

A new Enteric Disease Outbreak Data Analysis Training course is available! This interactive, self-study course, based on a 2-day tabletop simulation, is designed for local health department staff and provides training on how to gather and analyze data in an event-based enteric disease outbreak investigation. The modules cover the foundations of creating line lists, epidemic curves, case definitions, and performing data analysis for a cohort study. Modules can also be used as a refresher or for just-in-time training during outbreak investigations. We also show how to calculate measures of disease frequency, use an Excel template developed by NYS, and complete a NORS form. This training is available 24/7 online and can be completed at your own pace through an interactive format. The full training takes approximately 3 hours to complete.

This training was developed with the NYS Department of Health and the New York Integrated Food Safety Center of Excellence, with instructional design leadership from Cornell Public Health’s Nicky Beaudoin, aligned with the Cornell Health Impact Core’s commitment to public health workforce development. This project was generously supported by a Curriculum Enhancement Grant awarded to Beaudion and Cornell Public Health Associate Director, Gen Meredith, by Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine Educational Support Services.   Epidemiologist Amy Robbins, from the NYS Department of Health, and her team were instrumental in developing the course in the online format.
