Overdose Surveillance
To support the work related to the national opioid epidemic, members of our team developed and launched a public-facing, interactive, near real-time overdose surveillance data dashboard to engage the community and help local leaders make data-driven decisions. Over seventy-five percent of users report using the dashboard to inform organizations or person decision-making. We have also helped communities utilize surveillance data to develop a county-wide spike alert policy and implement and evaluate a multi-faceted, data-driven initiative to increase access to naloxone for rural and vulnerable populations. Analysis reveals increased naloxone administration by bystanders during overdoses, which has contributed to saving 137 lives to date.
